Burstow is a largely rural civil parish in the district of Tandridge in Surrey, sitting on the county’s southern edge close to the border with West Sussex. The parish includes the village of Smallfield and a scattering of hamlets, a patchwork of arable fields, ancient woodland and green‑belt countryside within easy reach of Crawley, Horley and Gatwick Airport.
Historically the area has medieval roots and retains traditional buildings and winding lanes; its local economy is a mix of agriculture, small businesses and commuters who travel to nearby towns and the airport. Community life is centred on village facilities and events, and planning and conservation measures have played a strong role in preserving the parish’s rural character despite pressure from surrounding urban growth.
