The Telford and Wrekin unitary authority sits in eastern Shropshire, centred on the post‑war new town of Telford. It stretches across a mix of urban centres, market towns and countryside along the River Severn, with the famous Ironbridge Gorge - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - to the south, where early ironworks at Coalbrookdale helped launch the Industrial Revolution.
The local economy blends advanced manufacturing, engineering and logistics with retail and public services, and several business parks and the large town centre draw firms from the Midlands and beyond. Good road links, notably the M54, make the area popular with commuters and distribution businesses.
Culturally there is a strong industrial heritage offer, from museums and the reconstructed Blists Hill Victorian Town to regular community events, while green spaces such as Telford Town Park and nearby river valleys provide plenty of outdoor recreation. The population mixes long‑standing rural communities with newer developments, and ongoing regeneration projects continue to shape social and economic life.
