Wellington is a market town and civil parish in the borough of Telford and Wrekin, in Shropshire. Sitting close to the distinctive hill The Wrekin, it grew from a medieval market centre into an industrial town during the 18th and 19th centuries thanks to nearby coal and ironworking, and was later incorporated into the post‑war Telford new town while retaining a separate local identity.
Today Wellington functions as a busy local hub with an indoor market, independent shops along the high street, a railway station on the Wolverhampton–Shrewsbury line and a mix of retail, light industry and commuters. Historic buildings and easy access to walking country around The Wrekin and the heritage landscapes of Ironbridge make it popular with both residents and visitors.
