Greystoke is a small village and civil parish in the unitary authority of Westmorland and Furness, lying a few miles north of Penrith on the eastern edge of the Lake District fringes. It occupies classic Eden Valley countryside of rolling farmland, parkland and modest fells, and is dominated historically by Greystoke Castle, a fortified manor with medieval origins that gives the place a distinctly historic, rural character; the village church of St Andrew's Church and surviving estate features add to the sense of continuity with the past.
Today the local economy is largely agricultural with a helpful tilt towards tourism and country-house events because of the castle and easy access to Lakeland walking routes. The community is small and close-knit, with village activities and seasonal events typical of rural Cumbria, and the area’s historic connections and country-house setting have also attracted a modest cultural interest beyond the locality.
