Kilcooley is a large post‑war housing area and electoral ward on the western edge of Bangor in the Ards and North Down district of Northern Ireland. Built largely in the 1960s to accommodate overspill from Belfast, it sits within easy reach of the coast and Belfast Lough and has good road links to surrounding towns and the city.
Like many big estates it has faced economic and social challenges and a complicated history during the Troubles, but it also has a strong local identity and active community organisations - including a women’s centre and various regeneration and arts projects - working to improve opportunities and local facilities while drawing on the nearby amenities of Bangor and the loughside landscape.
