Located at the eastern tip of the Ards Peninsula on the edge of Strangford Lough and the Irish Sea, Portavogie sits within the borough of Ards and North Down in Northern Ireland. Its sheltered harbour and low-lying shore have supported fishing for generations and the village remains notable for a large whitefish fleet, with smokehouses and processing facilities clustered along the quayside.
There is a strong maritime identity in the community, visible in rows of traditional fishermen’s cottages, harbour-centred social life and local events that reflect the seafaring heritage; the name itself derives from the Irish for "port of the bog". Although small in population, the area maintains active churches, clubs and a resilient local economy tied to fisheries and coastal services.
