The Causeway Coast and Glens district sits on a dramatic stretch of coastline in Northern Ireland, celebrated for the basalt columns of the Giant's Causeway (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), high cliffs, long sandy beaches and the seabird haven of Rathlin Island. Popular towns such as Portrush, Portstewart and Ballycastle act as tourist hubs, the scenic Causeway Coastal Route draws road‑trippers, and golf at Royal Portrush put the area on the international sporting map when it hosted The Open in 2019.
Created in 2015 by the merger of the former councils of Coleraine, Ballymoney, Limavady and Moyle, the district blends a tourism‑led economy with agriculture, fishing and small industry. Its history ranges from prehistoric monuments to medieval castles and Plantation settlements, and the social fabric reflects mixed community identities and local language traditions across parts of County Antrim and County Londonderry.
