Forkhill is a small rural village and ward in the Newry, Mourne and Down district of Northern Ireland, set in the rolling drumlin countryside of south Armagh. The landscape is a patchwork of hedged fields, small farms and areas of peat and bog, with the border to the Republic of Ireland not far away, giving the locality a quiet, rural character.
Economically it remains largely agricultural with many residents commuting to nearby Newry for work and services. Culturally the area has a strong Gaelic tradition centred on local clubs and community halls, and like much of south Armagh it carries memories of 20th‑century political conflict while today emphasising community life, local heritage and resilience.
