Newtownhamilton is a small market town in County Armagh, within the local government district of Newry, Mourne and Down in Northern Ireland. It sits close to the Irish border at the southern edge of the drumlin country, with the distinctive bulk of Slieve Gullion and the Ring of Gullion Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty visible nearby, giving the area a strong appeal for walkers and anyone interested in dramatic rural landscapes.
Traditionally an agricultural service centre with a scattering of local shops and small businesses, the town has a close-knit community life framed by sporting clubs, parish activities and cross‑border links that support the local economy. Like many towns in the south Armagh borderlands it carries the legacy of the Troubles, but in recent years there has been steady community regeneration and a growing interest in outdoor tourism centred on Slieve Gullion Forest Park and local heritage.
