Banff is a small coastal town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, sitting on the north bank of the River Deveron where it meets the sea, opposite Macduff. Once the county town of Banffshire, it has a compact high street of Georgian and Victorian sandstone buildings and the striking Georgian mansion Duff House close by.
The town grew up around a working harbour and fishing trade and today its economy mixes fishing, agriculture, local services and tourism; visitors come for the beaches, dramatic coastal scenery, wildlife and historic sites such as the ruins of Banff Castle, while a small, community‑centred social life is maintained through local events and festivals.
