Turriff is a small market town in rural Aberdeenshire in north‑east Scotland, often called “Turra” by locals. It sits amid rolling arable farmland and patches of moorland in the Buchan area, with a compact high street, community amenities and a strong local identity rooted in agriculture and country life.
The town has a long farming tradition and hosts the famous Turriff Show each summer, one of Scotland’s biggest agricultural events; it also bears historic traces such as the 1639 skirmish known as the Battle (or Trot) of Turriff and the nearby wartime airfield. Today the economy still leans on agriculture and local services, with many people commuting to Aberdeen or working in rural industries and renewables, while community fixtures like the Turra Coo and local clubs keep social life lively.
