Boddam is a small coastal village in Aberdeenshire, on the northeast coast of Scotland, just a few miles southeast of Peterhead. Perched above rugged cliffs and a rocky shoreline on the North Sea, it is best known for its working harbour and the white lighthouse on Buchan Ness, a striking local landmark that has guided vessels in and out of the area for generations.
Historically rooted in fishing, Boddam still reflects a maritime way of life while also having connections to the wider North Sea energy economy and nearby towns. The village attracts walkers and wildlife enthusiasts with dramatic coastal scenery, seabird colonies and seals, and retains a compact, close‑knit community with a strong sense of local history and character.
