Central Buchan is a largely rural ward in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, made up of small towns and villages set among rolling arable farmland, heather moorland and with the North Sea coast within easy reach. The local economy still leans on agriculture and fishing traditions but has been shaped in recent decades by links to the offshore energy sector and the development of renewable projects, alongside small businesses serving village communities.
The area is rich in history, with prehistoric sites and Pictish stones scattered across the landscape, and a strong local identity expressed through Doric speech, agricultural shows, community halls and amateur sports clubs. Socially it combines tightâknit community life with the challenges of rural service provision and an ageing population, while good road links provide connections to nearby centres such as Peterhead and Fraserburgh.
