South Kintyre

The area around South Kintyre occupies the southern tip of the Kintyre peninsula in Argyll and Bute, Scotland, centred on the town of Campbeltown and including coastal villages such as Machrihanish. It is a remote, windswept landscape of sandy beaches, rugged headlands and sheltered bays, with the well‑known Mull of Kintyre marking the exposed southern extremity.

Locally the economy mixes farming and fishing with a revived whisky industry - Campbeltown still celebrates its distilling heritage - plus tourism, golf and outdoor pursuits. The area has a strong maritime and crofting history, visible in its archaeology, music and Gaelic traditions, and community life tends to be close‑knit with seasonal festivals and volunteer organisations playing an important role.
