The neighbouring villages of Banavie and Corpach sit on the western edge of the Great Glen beside Loch Linnhe, a couple of miles from Fort William. Banavie is best known for the remarkable canal engineering of Neptune's Staircase on the Caledonian Canal, and both places act as gateways to the hills and glens, with Ben Nevis and scenic rail journeys close at hand.
Corpach historically served as a working harbour and the western access to the canal, and while maritime and small industrial activity remain, tourism, outdoor recreation and ferry services now dominate the local economy. There’s a strong Highland community feel with visible wartime and industrial heritage, Gaelic roots and the seasonal bustle of hillwalkers, anglers and canal visitors that keeps the villages lively year round.
