Caol in Highland, Scotland is a compact village on the north shore of Loch Linnhe, just to the north of Fort William at the seaward end of the Great Glen. Its name comes from the Gaelic for "narrow" and the place enjoys striking views across the loch towards Ben Nevis, with the surrounding highland landscape shaping everyday life.
Historically linked to the transport and maritime routes that serve the west, including rail links such as the West Highland Line, Caol today functions largely as a residential and community hub for the wider area, with local Gaelic culture, outdoor tourism (hillwalking, watersports) and community-led regeneration efforts important to its economy and social life.
