Eilean á Chèo is the Highland electoral ward that takes in much of the Isle of Skye and the neighbouring Raasay, with the largest settlement at Portree. The ward is defined by some of Scotland’s most dramatic scenery - the jagged Cuillin ridge, the Trotternish escarpment with the Old Man of Storr and the Quiraing - and a strong Gaelic cultural identity that remains visible in place‑names, music and community life.
Economically the area depends on tourism, crofting, fishing and island businesses (including the well‑known Talisker distillery), while transport links such as the Skye Bridge to Kyle of Lochalsh and local ferries from Sconser keep communities connected. Historic Norse and clan legacies colour local heritage, and contemporary social issues - from population shifts to efforts to sustain Gaelic and rural services - are central to civic discussion.
