Tregaron and Ystrad Fflur sit in the heart of Ceredigion, Wales, occupying a broad upland basin on the edge of the Cambrian Mountains. The area is notable for the nearby raised bog of Cors Caron, a nationally important nature reserve for wildlife and peatland, and for the atmospheric ruins of Strata Florida Abbey in Ystrad Fflur, which anchors the landscape with medieval history.
Historically a market and droving centre, Tregaron retains a rural economy based on sheep and cattle farming, small local businesses and a modest tourism trade drawn by walking, birdwatching and heritage. The communities are strongly Welsh-speaking and host traditional events and shows, giving the ward a lively cultural feel despite its quiet, agricultural character.
