Ystrad Meurig is a small, rural parish in Ceredigion, set among the rolling uplands on the edge of the Cambrian Mountains and within easy reach of the Cardigan Bay coast. The landscape is classic mid-Wales: green pastures, stone walls and narrow lanes, with farming - particularly sheep and cattle - still shaping daily life and the pattern of settlement.
Despite its size, Ystrad Meurig has an outsized cultural history, known for an 18th-century grammar school founded by Edward Richard that helped make the village a local centre of learning. Today it remains a close-knit, largely Welsh-speaking community with a mix of traditional agriculture, small-scale tourism for walkers and history enthusiasts, and village events that keep social life active.
