Ystwyth is an electoral ward in Ceredigion, Wales, taking its name from the meandering River Ystwyth that cuts through a landscape of steep valleys, upland moor and rolling farmland on the fringes of the Cambrian Mountains. The area is sparsely settled, with small villages and scattered farms giving way to open grazing and riverside woodland.
Locally the ward retains a strong Welsh-speaking culture, with community life centred on village halls and chapels; economically it relies on hill farming, small-scale tourism and people who commute to larger towns such as Aberystwyth for work and services. The valley also bears traces of its industrial past in nineteenth-century metal and lead mining, leaving pockets of industrial archaeology that contrast with the natural appeal that draws walkers and anglers.
