The small hamlet and sandy bay of Freshwater East sits on the south coast of Pembrokeshire in Wales, inside the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. A gentle horseshoe bay backed by dunes and a freshwater stream gives the place its name; there’s a seasonal lifeguard service, a car park and a simple café, and the beach is popular with families, paddlers and dog-walkers.
Historically a modest fishing and farming settlement, Freshwater East now leans on tourism and holiday lets while retaining a small local community. It’s linked to the wider coast by the Wales Coast Path, and nearby features such as the Castlemartin military range and rich coastal flora and birdlife give the area a quiet, slightly off-the-beaten-track character that appeals to walkers and nature-watchers.
