Llay is a village a few miles north of Wrexham in north‑east Wales, which grew up around 19th‑ and early 20th‑century coal mining and brickworks. That industrial past still shows in local buildings and community institutions such as the miners’ welfare and village halls.
Today Llay is largely residential with a mix of small businesses and an industrial estate, and many residents commute to Wrexham, Chester or further afield. The village sits close to the valley of the River Alyn and maintains a lively local scene with clubs, sports teams and community events that reflect its industrial heritage.
