Valence sits in the east of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, centred on the green expanse of Valence Park and the historic Valence House. The ward is largely residential, with interwar and post‑war housing and pockets of council properties, lying close to the large interwar Becontree estate and within easy reach of the commercial centres of Barking and Dagenham.
The timber‑framed Valence House, the borough’s oldest surviving building, now serves as a local history museum and helps anchor community events in the park. Socially and economically the area is mixed and changing, with local shops and small businesses, modest regeneration projects and decent transport links into central London, giving it a quiet, leafy character with a strong local civic identity.
