Darton is a village in the metropolitan borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. It sits in the Dearne Valley between Barnsley and Wakefield, with a mix of older terraces and more recent housing; a local railway station and decent road links make it a practical commuter base for nearby towns and the wider region while still being close to patches of countryside.
Historically Darton grew as part of the coal‑mining landscape of the old West Riding of Yorkshire, and the legacy of that industrial past is still visible in former pit sites and community structures. Today it’s largely residential with local shops, pubs, schools and active community and sports clubs, and recent redevelopment has seen former industrial land repurposed while older buildings and local events continue to give the place its character.
