Wixams is a planned new settlement on the western edge of the Bedford borough in Bedfordshire, created on former agricultural land and designed around a series of neighbourhoods with parks and water features. It sits close to the village of Wilstead and the A6/A421 corridor, giving decent road links to nearby towns and the wider motorway network.
Characterised by modern housing, a growing village centre, schools and community facilities, Wixams attracts many young families and commuters and has been developed with local employment space and cycle routes in mind. While it lacks the deep historical layers of older Bedfordshire villages, its rapid growth and mix of green space, amenities and transport links have made it a notable new community within easy reach of Bedford, Milton Keynes and London.
