Sidcup sits in the outer part of the London Borough of Bexley, historically in Kent, roughly eleven miles south‑east of central London. It is largely residential, characterised by a mix of Victorian, Edwardian and inter‑war housing, tidy tree‑lined streets and a compact high street of independent shops, cafés and pubs that give the area a village‑like feel despite its proximity to the capital.
The neighbourhood grew rapidly after the arrival of the railway and remains a commuter focus served by Sidcup station with frequent services into central London. Green spaces such as Foots Cray Meadows, community facilities and schools - including the well‑regarded Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School - shape its family‑orientated social life; economically it is driven by local retail and services, with many residents travelling into the city for work.
