The London Borough of Bexley sits in outer south‑east London, bordering Greenwich and Bromley and the county of Kent. It stretches to the north bank of the Thames, taking in riverside towns such as Erith and Belvedere, alongside suburban hubs like Bexleyheath and Sidcup. The borough is noted for its parks and green spaces, with landmarks such as Danson Park and the gardens of Hall Place.
Historically part of Kent until 1965, the area still retains village centres and a number of Georgian and Tudor buildings around Bexley village and other conservation areas. The riverside had an industrial past - shipbuilding and cement works around Erith and Belvedere - and has been a focus for recent regeneration, with cultural activities, arts projects and community festivals becoming more visible.
Today the borough combines a largely suburban, family‑oriented residential profile with local retail, light industry and growing waterfront development. Many residents commute into central London, supported by rail and road links, while the local economy and planning emphasise a balance of conservation, housing and selective regeneration to maintain a quieter, greener alternative to inner‑city living.
