Baildon is a town and civil parish in the metropolitan borough of Bradford, in West Yorkshire, England. It sits on a sandstone ridge above the River Aire and the Aire Valley, with immediate access to open moorland on Baildon Moor and wooded valleys that make it popular for walkers and outdoor recreation; the town is also conveniently close to Shipley and has good rail links for commuters to Bradford and Leeds.
There are traces of early settlement on the surrounding moors and the village grew rapidly in the 19th century with woollen mills and Victorian housing linked to the Industrial Revolution. Today Baildon combines a strong local community, independent shops and schools with sporting clubs and conservation areas; economically it functions as a mix of local small businesses and a residential commuter town, retaining a largely suburban, semi-rural character.
