Ryburn is a largely rural ward on the southern side of the Calder Valley in Calderdale, West Yorkshire, taking in a string of stone-built villages and hamlets along the River Ryburn, with Ripponden as the most prominent settlement. The landscape is notable for its steep valley sides, surrounding moorland and reservoirs, which make it popular with walkers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Historically the area shares the Calder Valley’s textile and mill heritage, with former woollen mills and stone-built infrastructure still visible among modern housing and small businesses. The local economy mixes agriculture, independent trade and a commuting population working in nearby towns such as Halifax and Bradford, while active community groups, pubs and churches keep a strong village feel and several conservation areas protect historic buildings and green spaces.
