Outlane is a small village in the metropolitan borough of Kirklees, in West Yorkshire, England, sitting close to the county boundary with Lancashire. It lies on the A640 between Huddersfield and Oldham, and is overlooked by the moorland landscape to the north, including the prominent turbines of Scout Moor Wind Farm. Historically the settlement was part of the West Riding of Yorkshire and retains a mix of rural character and easy road links to nearby towns.
Today Outlane feels largely residential and commuter-oriented, with pockets of agriculture and small local businesses; the village supports community groups, a handful of pubs and local amenities rather than large industry. The surrounding moors make it attractive for walkers and those seeking a quieter base close to Huddersfield and the Pennine fringe.
