Lea-by-Backford is a small, largely rural civil parish on the fringe of Chester in Cheshire West and Chester, set on the flat, fertile expanses of the Cheshire Plain. The landscape is characterised by hedged farmland, country lanes and scattered cottages and farms, with wide views across to the Wirral Peninsula and the River Dee estuary on clear days.
Historically rooted in agricultural life, the parish retains a quietly historic character with traditional farmsteads and links to neighbouring communities such as Backford. Economically and socially it now combines farming with a commuter element, many residents travelling into Chester or nearby Ellesmere Port for work, while valuing the peaceful, village-scale community and easy access to city amenities.
