Port Isaac is a small, steep-sided fishing village on the Atlantic coast of Cornwall in England, known for its narrow, winding lanes and rows of honey‑coloured stone cottages tumbling down to a tiny tidal harbour. Historically it grew on the pilchard and fishing trade and later saw some prosperity from quarrying and coastal trade; today the harbour still supports a modest fleet of crab and lobster boats while tourism is a major part of the local economy.
The village has a strong sense of community and Cornish character, and it gained wider fame as the filming location for the TV series Portwenn (Doc Martin) and as the home of the shanty group Fisherman’s Friends, whose local maritime music has drawn visitors and renewed interest in traditional seafaring culture. The dramatic coastline, nearby cliffs and the rhythm of tides make it popular with walkers and photographers, but its small streets and limited parking help keep the place feeling intimate rather than commercialised.
