Torpoint is a small town on the eastern bank of the River Tamar in Cornwall, England, sitting opposite Plymouth and the naval base at Devonport. Its character is shaped by the distinctive chain ferries that shuttle people and vehicles across the water, and by sweeping views over the Hamoaze and out to Plymouth Sound. The town expanded in the 19th century to serve dockyard workers and still retains a strong maritime feel in its waterfront, war memorials and older Victorian terraces.
Today Torpoint combines local shops, schools and community facilities with a commuter relationship to Plymouth; social life often centres on sports clubs, regattas and seasonal events. The surrounding countryside is attractive for walkers, with easy access to the gardens of Antony House and the coastal lanes of the Rame Peninsula and Rame Head, giving a mix of working‑town vitality and nearby coastal tranquillity.
