Addiscombe West is a largely residential ward in the southern suburbs of Croydon, with a mix of Victorian and Edwardian terraces, interwar and post‑war housing and a few newer infill developments. It benefits from good transport links into central London via Tramlink and nearby East Croydon station, and has local green spaces such as Lloyd Park and the Addiscombe Recreation Ground that give it a suburban, family‑friendly feel.
The area has some interesting local history - parts of Addiscombe were associated with the East India Company’s 19th‑century military seminary - and today the ward combines small parades of independent shops and cafés along Lower Addiscombe Road with a socially and culturally diverse population. Recent redevelopment of former industrial and institutional sites has shifted the local economy towards housing and local services while keeping a strong community character.
