Thornton Heath is a bustling neighbourhood in the north of the London Borough of Croydon, in the south of London. It expanded rapidly in the nineteenth century with the arrival of Thornton Heath station and today presents a mix of Victorian terraces, inter‑war housing and newer developments clustered around a busy high street and transport hub.
Locally it’s noted for a diverse population - large Caribbean and South Asian communities - an independent food and retail scene, lively community groups and grassroots arts activity. Parts of the area face economic and social challenges, but there is strong civic energy and ongoing regeneration and neighbourhood-led projects aimed at improving services and public spaces.
