Hayton is a small village and civil parish in the historic county of Cumberland in north‑west England, lying a few miles east of Carlisle and close to the market town of Brampton. Set on the edge of the Solway plain and the Pennine foothills, it’s a typically Cumbrian mix of limestone and sandstone cottages, pastoral fields and quiet lanes that make it popular with walkers and people seeking a rural base not far from the coast or the fells.
Locally the economy remains largely agricultural, with mixed farms and small rural businesses, while a number of residents commute into Carlisle. The village retains traditional community features - a parish church, village hall and pub - and sits within a landscape rich in border history and Roman remains, with the Lake District and Solway Firth within easy reach for day trips.
