North Molton sits on the northern edge of Exmoor in rural North Devon, Devon, occupying rolling farmland, wooded valleys and the moorland fringe. The village and wider parish look over the shallow valley of the River Mole and are dotted with traditional stone cottages, an old parish church and a handful of hamlets, making it a pleasant base for walkers exploring the moor and lanes.
Historically the area combined farming with pockets of mining in the 18th and 19th centuries, traces of which can still be seen in older earthworks and quarry scars; today agriculture, small businesses, equestrian activity and tourism are important to the local economy. Community life remains active with village events, a pub and village organisations preserving local traditions and the rural character of the place.
