Ilfracombe is a compact Victorian harbour town on the coast of North Devon, Devon, England, sitting on the edge of the Bristol Channel with dramatic cliffs that lead inland towards Exmoor National Park. Its steep, sheltered Ilfracombe Harbour and hand-carved Tunnels Beaches make it a distinctive stop on the South West Coast Path, while historic sites such as the chapel on Lantern Hill and the nearby Chambercombe Manor hint at a long maritime and medieval past.
Today the town mixes a tourism-driven economy and remaining fishing activity with a lively arts scene centered on the Landmark Theatre and galleries; the imposing contemporary sculpture Verity has become a modern landmark overlooking the harbour. Like many coastal towns it balances seasonal trade, community events and regeneration efforts with concerns about second homes and changing local services, yet it retains a strong sense of place and seaside character.
