Salcombe is a compact seaside town in the South Hams district of Devon, England, set on the sheltered mouth of the Kingsbridge Estuary. Its steep streets descend to a tidal harbour framed by cliffs and sandy shores such as South Sands and North Sands, and the town sits on the route of the South West Coast Path, offering dramatic coastal walks and estuary views.
Salcombe has a strong maritime character - sailing, yachting and boatbuilding are visible parts of the local economy alongside tourism and traditional crab and lobster fishing - and summers bring a busy, buzzy atmosphere and elevated property prices. The town also carries a colourful history, from Victorian harbour development to tales of smuggling, which all add to its compact, picturesque appeal.
