East Portlemouth sits on the eastern shore of the mouth of the Kingsbridge Estuary in South Hams, Devon, England, directly opposite Salcombe. The village is famed for its views across the estuary, a small sandy beach at South Sands reached by a short ferry from Salcombe or by the coastal footpaths, and the rolling wooded headlands that form part of the South Devon AONB.
Historically a mix of small-scale farming and fishing, the settlement now has a strong seasonal economy centred on holiday lets, day visitors and watersports, while remaining a compact, tight-knit community of cottages and lanes. Its quiet lanes, coastal walks and sheltered waters make it popular with walkers, sailors and families, with a noticeably quieter atmosphere outside the summer months.
