Chagford is a compact historic market and former stannary town on the northeastern edge of Dartmoor in West Devon, Devon, England. Set on windswept granite hills above the valley of the River Teign, the town’s narrow streets and sturdy granite houses reflect its medieval and industrial past centred on the tin and wool trades.
Today Chagford has a lively, independent high street of cafés, craftspeople and food producers, regular markets and community events (including the summer Chagstock festival), with tourism, agriculture and small businesses supporting the local economy. It’s a popular base for walkers and nature lovers wanting direct access to Dartmoor’s tors, clitter and river valleys, yet retains a close‑knit village feel.
