Teignmouth is a seaside town in the district of Teignbridge in Devon, England, sitting at the mouth of the River Teign opposite the village of Shaldon. It has a long Victorian esplanade, a working harbour and a mix of pebble and sandy beaches, and is popular with holidaymakers and walkers following the South West Coast Path; the scenic rail link to Exeter also makes it a handy commuter and day‑trip destination.
Historically a fishing and shipbuilding port that once survived a French attack in 1690, Teignmouth later became a Victorian resort and today combines tourism and local fishing with a commuting population and an active arts scene. It’s notable for colourful community events such as the regatta and carnival, and for small moments of wider fame - being the launch point for Donald Crowhurst’s ill‑fated voyage and the hometown of the rock band Muse - giving the town a lively, slightly eclectic character.
