Yelverton is a village on the south‑western edge of Dartmoor in West Devon, Devon, England. Sitting close to Burrator Reservoir and within easy reach of Plymouth, it blends granite moorland scenery with a suburban fringe; the A386 and local footpaths provide good road and walking access, so it’s a popular base for walkers, climbers and cyclists heading onto the open moor.
The settlement grew in the 19th century with the coming of the railway and still bears wartime echoes in nearby RAF Harrowbeer. Today local life is a mix of small shops, pubs and community groups, with an economy supported by tourism, outdoor recreation and commuters to the city; there’s a strong moorland identity shaped by Dartmoor’s mining and quarrying history and by active local clubs and seasonal events.
