Blandford St. Mary is a small riverside parish in Dorset, set on the south bank of the River Stour immediately opposite the Georgian market town of Blandford Forum. It occupies the transition from the chalk of the surrounding downs into the Stour valley, giving a mix of pleasant riverside scenery, farmland and pockets of suburban housing.
The local economy blends agriculture, light industry and commuting, and the nearby Blandford Camp and good road links to Salisbury and the South Coast towns such as Poole and Bournemouth influence daily life. Many residents use the amenities and events of Blandford Forum, while the river and surrounding countryside remain popular for walking and outdoor pursuits.
