Bridport sits on the western edge of Dorset, a short drive from the coast at West Bay and the cliffs of the Jurassic Coast. The town grew up around the mouth of the River Brit and occupies gentle hills that overlook a busy harbour, with dramatic seaside scenery a short walk away - the harbour and nearby cliffs have also been used as locations for TV and film.
Historically famous for rope and net making, Bridport's long ropewalks and former ropeworks speak to an important industrial past that still colours the town’s identity. Today it combines a strong arts and festival scene, regular markets and independent shops with tourism, small-scale manufacturing and local fishing, making it a lively community with a noticeable creative and civic energy.
