Puddletown is a compact village and civil parish in rural Dorset, set in the shallow valley of the River Piddle and hemmed by chalk downland. It sits a few miles east of Dorchester and is typical of the area’s rolling farmland, hedgerows and footpaths that attract walkers and nature fans.
The village has a long history visible in its medieval church, traditional cottages and nearby ancient barrows, and the local landscape features in the novels of Thomas Hardy. Today the economy mixes agriculture with small local businesses and commuting to nearby towns, while village life centres on the pub, village hall and community groups that keep a strong social fabric.
