Woodham Ferrers is a small historic village and civil parish in the Borough of Chelmsford, Essex, in the east of England, lying a few miles south of central Chelmsford and close to the River Crouch estuary. The settlement has medieval origins – the 'Ferrers' element of the name refers to the old Ferrers family – and retains a village core of older buildings and a rural character despite twentieth‑century growth nearby.
The neighbouring planned town of South Woodham Ferrers provides a railway station and larger shops, while Woodham Ferrers itself remains largely residential and agricultural, popular with commuters to Chelmsford and London. Local life centres on village pubs, community events and easy access to riverside and countryside walks, giving a quiet, community‑minded feel with good links to urban amenities.
