Woodham Mortimer is a small rural village and civil parish in the district of Maldon, in Essex, England. It lies a few miles from the estuary and saltmarshes of the Blackwater Estuary and is set among rolling farmland and hedgerow-lined lanes, giving it a distinctly countryside character despite being within commuting distance of Chelmsford.
Its origins are medieval and the "Mortimer" element of the name reflects historic manorial ownership; the village still shows traditional cottages, a parish church and remnants of agricultural activity. Today it is a quiet, close-knit community valued for country walks, local events and its conservation of rural Essex character, while many residents travel to nearby towns or London for work.
