Hatfield Heath is a sizeable village in the district of Uttlesford, Essex, in the east of England. It developed around a large open heath and crossroads, with a landscape of hedgerow farmland and remnants of lowland heath; the village sits between larger towns such as Bishop's Stortford and Saffron Walden and lies within easy reach of Hatfield Forest, a well‑known ancient woodland and National Trust site.
The community retains a village‑green feel, centred on a village hall, local pubs, small shops and an active cricket club, and there are a number of attractive period cottages and former coaching inns that hint at its historic roadside role. Many residents commute to nearby centres or to London, and proximity to Stansted Airport and decent road and rail links has shaped a mixed local economy of small businesses, agriculture and commuter households, while fetes and village events keep the social life lively.
