Stonehouse is a town and civil parish in the district of Stroud, in Gloucestershire, England, set in the Stroud Valleys close to the course of the River Frome and the restored sections of the Stroudwater Navigation and remnants of the Thames and Severn Canal. It lies within easy reach of the M5 and the mainline rail corridor, which has shaped its role as both a local service centre and a commuter settlement for larger nearby towns and cities.
Historically Stonehouse grew from a small medieval settlement into a 19th‑century industrial town with woollen mills and engineering works; much of that industrial character survives in converted buildings and light‑industrial estates. Today the town combines heritage attractions such as Stonehouse Court and canal‑side walks with community clubs, local shops and small businesses, and the recent canal restoration has added leisure and tourism interest to the local economy.
